Our story

Where Dear was born

We live in a fast-paced world, and mental health is declining faster than ever. The world isn't going to slow down for us. So we asked a different question: how do we live well inside the reality we have now?

We think the answer starts with connection.

We're on our phones all day, and still the people we love most go weeks without hearing from us. Nobody means for it to happen. Life just gets loud.

We wanted a way to remind ourselves, and more than that, a way to turn those reminders into meaningful gestures for the people we care about most. We saw what the world calls a crisis and decided to do something good with it.

That's where Dear was born. We believe the same phone that pulls us apart can bring us back to each other.

Our mission
To help every person feel remembered.

Dear helps you stay close to the people you love. We remind you to reach out, and we make it simple to show up with something meaningful when you do.

How it works

Stay close, one letter at a time

  1. Build your circle

Add the friends, family, and people who matter most to you. Dear keeps them top of mind.

  2. Get a gentle nudge

Dear lets you know when it's been a while, when a birthday is coming up, or when someone could use a little love.

  3. Send a letter

Write a digital letter right from your phone, the kind of note people don't get anymore. Add a cute digital gift if you want.

A letter sent with Dear Dear Grandma,

I was making coffee this morning and thought of Sunday mornings at your house. I miss those. I hope your garden is doing well and I'll call you this weekend.

Love you, Em

A small reminder turns into a moment someone keeps.

Only on Dear

Made for the moment they open it

Dear is for friends and family, and it keeps going after the letter is sent. These are the things that make it feel like a real exchange.

Reactions

See their face when they read it

When someone opens your letter, they can record their reaction and send it back to you. It's always their choice.

Write back

Reply in one tap

Every letter comes with a write-back button. Nobody needs an account or a download to read your letter or answer it.

Sunday nudge

Who haven't you told lately?

Once a week, Dear suggests someone from your circle who'd love to hear from you.

Group letters

Everyone signs one

Birthdays, goodbyes, or a friend going through it. Everyone adds a note to the same letter.

Talk it out

Say it instead of typing it

Hold the mic and talk. Dear turns what you said into a letter in your own words.

The drawer

Every letter, kept

All the letters you've ever gotten, saved in one cute place to come back to on hard days.

A little extra

Tiny gifts, big feelings

Every letter can come with something small and sweet. Pick from a collection of cute digital gifts, most under a dollar, to make someone smile on an ordinary day.

Or send an Open When pack for 99¢: a set of sealed letters for open when you miss me, open when you can't sleep, open when you need a laugh.

What we believe

Small gestures matter

A two-minute letter can change someone's whole day. Showing up doesn't have to be big to mean a lot.

Connection is good for you

Feeling close to the people you love is one of the best things you can do for your mental health, and theirs.

Phones can bring us closer

We spend hours on our screens every day. Dear makes some of that time go toward the people who matter.

Who's on your mind today?

Dear is coming soon

We'll only email you about Dear. No spam, ever.
